Position Description

Advise students interested in pursuing Health Science degrees in the College of Health Sciences (CHS), specifically degrees within Nursing, Recreation and Sports Management, and Exercise Science. This advisor will also be trained to help with other academic programs in the CHS as needed. Assist students in both pre-requisites as well as major, minor and/or degree of study requirements. This position will be supervised by the Dean of the College and the Director of College Advisement and will interface closely with the Advisement Office. Advise students in general education, transfer, program, and graduation requirements; advise students with health science pre-requisite coursework planning, as well as degree attainment planning, once admitted to a health science program. Meet with students for advisement, registration, and graduation certification. Assist with advisement, recruitment, and orientation sessions; conduct interviews with eligible students preparing for graduation. Assist with the commencement program and participate in retention initiatives under the direction of the College of Health Sciences. Refer students to other agencies for assistance, such as Financial Aid, Disability Resource Center, TRiO Program, Booth Wellness Center, Community Outreach programs, etc. Attend professional development opportunities for advisement and the college; serve on various university committees. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

Full-time professional staff (overtime-exempt) position. Annual salary of $38,500 for Bachelor’s degree-qualified applicants and $41,000 for Master’s degree-qualified applicants. Desired start date of October 2021. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field required At least two years’ advising-related experience required. Familiarity with University admissions guidelines, standards, procedures, and higher education admissions counseling in general. Proficient computer skills; willingness to learn new systems. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with faculty, staff and students. Strong written and communication skills; ability to exercise critical human relation skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with University stakeholders. Background must show ability to positively relate to multicultural students, first generation students, non-traditional students, and students in transition.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.
