Position Description

This position is responsible for providing academic advisement for current and prospective students seeking a WSU degree online. Responsibilities include creating unofficial academic plans for assigned prospects and developing preliminary academic check sheets for assigned new students. Provide academic advising for assigned current students in one or more majors offered through the Global Campus. Position will participate in Global Campus efforts to increase retentions rates and retain students. Position will be the primary contact for assigned students. Position is accountable for understanding and following WSU Core Advising Responsibilities This position will either be on the Pullman campus or teleworking.

Duties

This position will work primarily with Business Students, but may also support additional majors as necessary. Responsibilities include creating unofficial academic plans for assigned prospects and developing preliminary academic check sheets for assigned new students. Provide academic advising for assigned current students in one or more majors offered through the Global Campus.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time academic advising experience at a college or university or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.+ xperience related to student services in an educational setting with progressively responsible direct work with students/student services. Demonstrated verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. Must have, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid unrestricted driver’s license. Demonstrated experience working with non-traditional students or audiences. Experience with large and small group presentations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment. Demonstrated organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in a related field. Experience in a higher education environment. Familiarity with Washington State University’s academic rules and regulations. Two (2) years previous experience working with students in an academic and career development setting with progressively responsible direct work with students/student services. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with students, faculty, advisors, and administrators. Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work independently in multiple roles. Experience with WSU online systems. Knowledge of and experience with academic advising and related issues. Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and software applications. Demonstrated experience working with decision makers in business, government, and non-profit sectors.
