Position Description

The Academic Success Center has a position available for an Academic Program Specialist of SOAR (Students Overcoming Academic Roadblocks) and Academic Coaching. As part of the Academic Excellence Programs (AEP) team, this position will be responsible for SOAR, a program that supports students on academic probation as well as others in need of academic assistance. The Academic Program Specialist will also develop and expand peer coaching and major coaching to support retention efforts. This position will report to the Director of Academic Excellence Programs and will assist the Director with other areas in the Academic Excellence Programs department.

Duties

1. Coordinate all aspects of SOAR and SOARING SPARTANS program for students on academic probation and those identified through targeted initiatives.
This includes program development, implementation assessment, tracking utilization, communication, and reporting on program initiatives.
2. Provide individualized support for identified students on academic probation and other targeted populations.
3. Design and implement specific programming to targeted student populations through individualized meetings, campus events, and utilization of instructional design and media options.
4. Co-coordinate Academic Coaching program, in partnership with the Academic Program Specialist of Peer Support and Supplemental Instruction, to provide peer coaching opportunities for students on academic probation and other identified targeted populations.
5. Coordinate Academic Success Skill workshops and outreach events geared towards the development of college success habits, interdependence, goal setting, self-management, and other college success skills.
 6. Develop and maintain a website and Blackboard site, as well as create marketing materials highlighting the SOARING SPARTANS Program.
7. Teach ASK-100 course(s): study skills course that assists students in enhancing college success skills, setting goals and developing personal responsibility for their academic experiences. May also teach the First-Year Seminar course BAC 101/102, with supervisor permission, without overload compensation.
8. Participate in staff development, meetings, and administrative functions as well as serve as an active member on assigned university committees.
9. Assist with appointments, walk-ins, presentations, Admissions events, and perform other duties as assigned.
10. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

1. Master's degree in an academic discipline or higher education or related field from a regionally accredited university
 2. 2-5 years working in the higher education environment.
3. Knowledge of academic support programs, and academic advising policies and procedures.
4. Knowledge of university resources.? 5. Knowledge of FERPA and confidentially.
6. Supervisory skills.
7. Strong communication and writing skills. 8. Interpersonal and team building skills to work with others.
9. Ability to relate effectively with students, parents, and university personnel.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
11. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday, EAB-Navigate, Blackboard, and Microsoft Office.
12. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
