Position Description

The Admissions Specialist is part of a team responsible for the recruitment of new students to the college.


The primary job duties include meeting with prospective students and their families on campus, providing general admissions information for both credit and non-credit programs and identifying and connecting students at risk with offices providing enhanced retention services. The advisor will facilitate individual and group tours. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, effective group presentation capabilities, working collaboratively across campus and highly developed organizational skills.

Institution Information

Hagerstown Community College (HCC) was founded in 1946 as Maryland’s first community college. More than 100 programs of study are available for university transfer, career preparation, or personal development, as well as non-credit continuing education courses, customized training programs and Washington County’s adult education program. Associate degrees, certificates and letters of recognition are awarded. The 319-acre picturesque campus encompasses 18 buildings and includes a full-service business incubator, numerous gardens, and an outdoor amphitheater.

Required Qualifications

Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in Counseling preferred. Two years of professional admissions experience preferred. Experience working with a diverse group of students in a community college is preferred. Experience with Datatel Colleague is ideal.

- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask; proficient computer skills and a knowledge of student on-line systems; strong ability to work with others in a team environment in a collegiate manner; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to deal tactfully and effectually with prospective students, guidance counselors and HCC staff; and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
