Position Description

Quinnipiac University's College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for an Advising Specialist. The Advising Specialist works closely with the College dean, associate deans, director of career development, and department chairs in the college and will report to the assistant dean for advising and student services. Essential duties include providing academic advising to students and supporting the overall advising plan of the College. The Advising Specialist will also help coordinate advising projects and events and oversee operations in the Advising Commons in collaboration with the assistant dean and director of career development.


Serve as primary academic advisor for students across several majors Assist with advising transfer students Answer student advising and registration questions Assist with coordination and planning of events for recruitment, orientation, advising, and alumni and parents Serve as instructor for academic and career exploration course (CAS110) Hold weekly open office hours for student academic and career advising in the Advising Commons Supervise interns in the Advising Commons Contribute to planning and supporting academic and career advising initiatives Assist with degree audit process Assist with maintaining and updating our career portal (QUCC) as well as our academic and career advising website (CAS 360) May serve on the university-wide Advising Council Assist with revision process to the university catalog for the departments and college Assist with student work-study work postings Complete other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

1-2 years of experience in advising students (or closely related experience)
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication, including public presentations
Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills
Project management and coordination experience
Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community
Commitment to a College of Arts and Sciences education
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in an Arts and Sciences field preferred Master's degree preferred
