Position Description

The University of Nevada, Reno seeks candidates for the Academic Advisor 1 position for the School of Public Health. The Academic Advisor 1 is responsible for providing academic advising to prospective, new, transfer and continuing undergraduate education students in individual and group advising settings regarding schedule, choice of major, number of hours to be taken, etc. The Academic Advisor 1 provides expertise in core curriculum, major program requirements, participates in retention activities, and may be involved in recruitment events and other college-specific special projects assigned.


Duties Include
•Advise incoming freshmen, new students, continuing students and transfer students on core courses and appropriate class selection for major and professional goals; conduct individual and group advising appointments
•Remain knowledgeable on academic information to best serve students and convey accurate information to staff, faculty and students
•Provide data related to retention and enrollment management for reports and presentations
•Complete and submit Admission and Records forms and processes to include remove holds, scheduling appointments, facilitating course registration, completing advance registration for incoming students, etc. •Participate in new student orientation sessions
•Advise students on academic probation, provide referrals to appropriate campus resources
•Create and maintain accurate student records including documenting each interaction
•Participating in proactive outreach related to early alert systems and communication from faculty
•Participate in professional development workshops/events
•Participate in and support the advising needs of College FIT Program
•Serve on program specific councils or committees
•Participate in assigned special projects
•Participate in on-campus recruitment activities
•Assist with coordinating and participating in internal Health Sciences recruitment
•Participate in assigned special projects

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience. Related Experience: in a field related to academic advising or student services
