The School of Public Policy (CLA) is seeking a Advisor-Academic. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The professional faculty member in this position will serve as an advisor for on-campus and E-campus students who hold majors in the School of Public Policy. The advisor will primarily assist Sociology and Public Policy majors and minors but will be trained to assist students in Economics and Political Science as needed. The advisor helps students select and plan courses as well as understand how an educational background in their major can help them achieve their educational and career goals. The advisor works with faculty and assists with enrollment management, provision of student-specific information, and annual course scheduling as needed.
Serves as an undergraduate coordinator for Sociology and Public Policy Programs to provide academic advising to majors and other students taking Sociology and Public Policy courses residentially or through e-campus; this includes providing regular office hours to talk with students; understanding and applying all OSU, Liberal Arts, and program-specific policies and procedures; meeting with or otherwise communicating with prospective majors; representing Sociology and Public Policy programs at E-campus advising meetings; and communicating needs of undergraduates to the faculty as appropriate. Receives cross-training and assists with program advising in Economics and/or Political Science as necessary.
Assists Sociology and Public Policy faculty in the development and implementation of innovative learning opportunities for on-line undergraduate students; helps with Program course scheduling; attends Sociology and Public Policy Program meetings, represents School of Public Policy on occasional committees or task forces addressing residential and/or online education or related issues.
