Position Description

The University seeks an Advisor & Coordinator, Select Populations for the advising office in the Center for Exploring Majors. This is a full-time administrative position with responsibility to coordinate retention efforts geared toward special populations served by the Center for Exploring Majors, including 21st Century Scholars, probation and dismissed students, students in transition, and student athletes.


Essential functions include but are not limited to:
• Advise undecided students in the development and completion of their academic and career goals
• Support the persistence, retention, and educational success of students by assisting them in developing relationships and university connections
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the academic and support programs of the university and a thorough understanding of student development theories in practice
• Provide individual advising
• Teach one or more sections of UNIV 101–Freshman Year Seminar each semester or as needed
• Teach GENS111-Career Planning and/or GENS105-College Study Strategies as needed
• Contribute material to the Center for Exploring Majors web page and Blackboard site as needed
• Perform related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Essential Knowledge & Skills:
• Master’s degree required. Master’s in counseling, college student services or a related field preferred.
• Experience in academic advising at the college level preferred.
• Experience working with undecided students and the exploration process preferred. Experience working with student at academic risk, including probation, dismissed and conditionally admitted students preferred.
• Knowledge of NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) Core Values, CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards) professional standards, and Federal guidelines affecting students and faculty (i.e. FERPA) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s in counseling, college student services or a related field preferred.
