This position is responsible for providing visible leadership at assigned HACC locations and assisting with overall management and coordination of academic advising. The incumbent leads day-to-day operations of advising centers to facilitate individual student academic success and timely academic progress, and ensures that students are on their individualized educational pathways, maintain academic plans and schedules, and are able to make appropriate decisions concerning their learning experiences, academic goals, persistence, and timely graduation.
Assist director with the management and coordination of the college-wide advisement system; manage the day-to-day work of advising staff at campus advising centers; work with director to manage advisor/advisee assignment process and database; monitor, assess, and support advisor schedules, appointment availability, and advising campaigns.
Develop and manage systems to deliver advising services and support virtually to students;
develop and update digital resources for students;
monitor virtual service delivery to ensure consistency and effectiveness of advising support to students;
create and maintain advising resources materials and website content;
ensure accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of program webpages, descriptions, educational material, schedules, event calendars, etc.
Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate performance of assigned staff; provide leadership to a collaborative team of advisors to meet the ongoing needs of all students (virtual and on-campus) on both a walk-in and appointment basis;
work regularly with students on major exploration, academic planning, course registration, graduation planning, course withdrawals, academic appeals, course overloads, academic interventions, and other issues related to academic progress and engagement.
Ensure advisors are providing appropriate advising support to students for retention, persistence and on-time graduation;
support advising team in establishing regular communications with advisees and maintaining up-to-date and accurate student records;
hold regular meetings with advisors; assist director in providing training and other related professional development to ensure consistent advisement information and best practices; coach, mentor, and support professional advisors.
Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty regarding advising activities and student concerns;
respond to and resolve student academic difficulties through the use of intrusive academic advising and advocacy;
address student-faculty concerns and/or communication issues through comprehensive advising case management.
Collaborate and maintain relationships with faculty and staff in academic schools and departments to help guide students towards successful college paths;
ensure advising practice is aligned with academic pathways.
Maintain a caseload of advisees within specific academic areas;
travel to HACC campuses as needed to support advising function.
Participate in the assessment and evaluation of academic advising;
prepare outcomes assessment to demonstrate efficacy and efficiency and to develop evidence-based offerings; meet goals and objectives and institutional goals;
contribute to strategic planning;
assist with management of department budget.
