Position Description

The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Academic Advising with the management and supervision of the Academic Advising staff. Responsibilities include regular collaboration with Director on matters of supervision of Academic Advising, monitoring various student success initiatives, providing direct advising services to the Blinn College student, developing/maintaining professional working relations with various Blinn College Administration/Faculty/Staff students.


Manage all aspects of the Testing Center on the Bryan campus. Includes being the designated Test Coordinator for the SAT, managing and supervising part-time proctors to provide in person TSIA, TCFP tests, TEAS/ATI, and other tests. Working with the Brenham Testing Center to provide and manage TSIA testing remotely. Assist the Director with overall effective office management such as Part-Time Advisor scheduling, budget management, Staff supervision, inner office communication of curriculum course changes and Texas Success Initiatives matters. Serve in the leadership role of the Director in times of absence and/or when needed. Assist currently enrolled students with identifying academic courses related to their educational and career goals to the extent that the student can is able to independently develop an educational plan to achieve their goal while ensuring the students FERPA rights are protected. Serve as liaison to Blinn College Administration/Faculty/Staff in regards to matter of transfer course equivalency, transfer admission requirements, assessments and State Legislative issues. Provide interpretation of Advising student data for the development of target major advising sessions and programs. Assist Directors in developing and maintaining a comprehensive training for new and returning Full-Time, Part-Time, Faculty Advisors and student workers. Provide guidance of the hiring, training and supervision of Advising and Counseling Student Worker(s). Advising Staff training schedule and presentations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s in a related field from an accredited institution of Higher Education. 1-2 years of supervisory experience in a College or University setting. 2-3 year of Student Service experience in a College or University setting. 2-3 years of academic advising experience in a College or University setting. 1 or more years of experience with student testing.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in academic discipline 3 -5 years’ of Student Service experience in higher education 3-5 years Academic advising experience at the College or University level Knowledge of Banner or equivalent computer systems.
