Provide appropriate and effective academic advising to an assigned caseload of students.
Perform integrated academic advising and consultation of prospective, current, and former students within the College of Education and Human Development. Assess academic level and advise students on academic programs and changes. Develop academic plans and class schedules. Assist students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities and setting goals. Present academic information to orientation groups and potential students and parents. Analyze applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts for entry into the university. Maintain appropriate records. Sustain an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and educational team members. Support student life and learning through student advocacy, academic coaching, customer service, campus and community referrals, institutional outreach and course scheduling. Work closely with all campus departments to support retention and persistence endeavors.

Advanced degree in education, counseling or similar field or equivalent training, education, or experience. Experience in making independent judgments, analyzing and solving problems, managing multiple tasks, working independently as a self-starter. Proficient with current office software such as Microsoft Office. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
Academic advising experience in a higher education setting. Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues. Participation in the delivery of in-service training to practitioners on academic advising and information procedures. Experience interpreting, applying university, state and federal policies/procedures. Previous experience/knowledge working with Banner. Experience in planning and implementing programming for student recruitment and/or retention activities, or related events like commencement and workshops. Demonstrated experience in education, counseling/advising or related field.
