Position Description

The 49erNext Program is a collaboration between UNC Charlotte and the NC Community Colleges. The purpose of 49erNext is to develop a co-admission program to ensure seamless transfer leading to a bachelor’s degree for students starting at a North Carolina community college and transferring to UNC Charlotte.

The Associate Director serves as the initial point of contact for the 49er Next program with UNC Charlotte campus community, academic partners and North Carolina Community College partner institutions for programmatic support, data reporting, academic policy compliance, and program analysis. Maintains records and metrics related to 49er Next program growth, retention rates, graduation rates, and enrollment trends. Associate Director is expected to work both independently and in a team environment. Oversee the routine outreach and onsite campus visitation, 49er Next specified ACA Transfer Seminar collaboration, and liaison relationship with partner and prospective 49er Next community college partner institutions. Candidate must have the following qualifications: attentiveness to detail; strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle them in an efficient and timely manner; excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills; ability to interact effectively with students and faculty of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels; ability to thoroughly understand and abide by federal and university guidelines regarding student confidentiality requirements; proficient use of computers and knowledge of various software programs.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree required in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or related field. At least 3 years of experience, preferably involving extensive direct Community College transfer student advising/counseling in a higher education setting, and/or collaboration with staff/faculty to develop and promote services for transfer students.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree with 5-7 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education required. At least 5-7 years in advising and academic support with transfer students. The candidate must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of, experience with the educational and cultural needs of a diverse North Carolina Community College student population. Experience in utilizing online student records system (BANNER) to review records for academic progress a plus.
