Position Description

Job Description:
As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions team, the associate director of Academic Relations, in collaboration with the director of Academic and Diversity Initiatives, provides leadership to the Academic Relations area of the larger Academic Relations, Competitive Admissions and Access and Diversity (ARCAAD) team.
Provides direct supervision to 2-3 professional staff and indirect supervision 2-4 student staff.
Works directly with the director of academic and diversity initiatives and the ARCAAD leadership team to accomplish strategic goals and priorities.
Leads, research, planning and execution of initiatives, projects, and activities to increase the strategic collaboration of academic units in the recruitment of undergraduate students.
Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of academic recruitment initiatives.
Manages the development and implementation of direct enrollment and direct admissions policies for academic units.
Leads the development of communications, documentation, and training support for academic departments. Manages the development, revision, and production of select academic content focused recruitment and yield communications.
Supports efforts to increase applications and enrollment of underrepresented minorities, first-generation and low-income students.
Convenes and proactively communicates with academic unit recruitment contacts to align recruitment and yield programs, initiatives, and strategies with that of Undergraduate Admissions.
Advises director of academic and diversity initiatives on strategies and best-practices designed to support effective collaboration between Undergraduate Admissions and the academic colleges, schools and departments.
Interprets Undergraduate Admissions priorities and recruitment strategies to lead colleges and schools in developing and implementing individualized recruitment strategies.
Works to ensure that recruitment and yield strategies initiated by colleges, schools and departments are in alignment with university enrollment goals.
Assists in representing to Undergraduate Admissions the enrollment goals and challenges of academic colleges, schools, and departments to help inform and frame Undergraduate Admissions’ recruitment, admissions and enrollment strategies and initiatives.
Serves as an operational liaison between Undergraduate Admissions and campus stakeholders, including, but not limited to, the academic colleges, schools, and departments; the Honors & Scholars Center, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), the Office of Student Life, OSAS Marketing and Strategic Communications, Analysis and Reporting, Buckeye Link, University Registrar etc.
Works with the recruitment and outreach leadership in Undergraduate Admissions to support academic unit strategic engagement in recruitment and yield efforts.
Works with Admissions Operations and Admissions Systems to update academic interest, major, and admissions enrollment information and mapping.
Plans and facilitates academic product training for Undergraduate Admissions staff.
Supports the planning and implementing of admissions application reviewer training and coaching.
Assists with application review management.
Reviews applications (domestic, international, transfer, special population) through our holistic application review process, adhering to deadlines.
Manages daily work-flows.
Develops and updates business process mapping and documentation of Academic Relations processes.
Uses the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA), CRM, student information system, and other technologies to inform and support work.
Reviews, analyzes, and validates data to make recommendations for program enhancements through use of data tools.
Maintains an understanding of admissions policies, procedures and student data related to academic relations, competitive admissions and access and diversity.
Manages strategic collaboration with OSAS specific to academic unit information, reports, and data.
Represents the Director of Academic and Diversity Initiatives and the Academic Relations, Competitive Admissions and Access and Diversity area in meetings and on internal and external committees.
Participates as an active member of Undergraduate Admissions through membership on committees.
Assists with on and off campus events and programs.
Employs a comprehensive performance management process including setting expectations through performance planning, coaching, leadership shadow castings and performance review.
Occasional travel and work nights and/or weekends.

Duties
 

Responsibility:

Learns and uses the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA), CRM, student information system, and other technologies to inform and support work. Reviews, analyzes, and validates data to make recommendations for program enhancements through use of data tools. Maintains an understanding of admissions policies, procedures and student data related to recruitment. Manages strategic collaboration with OSASR specific to academic unit information, reports and data.

10%: Represents the Director of Academic and Diversity Initiatives and the Academic Relations, Competitive Admissions and Access and Diversity area in meetings and on internal and external committees. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Education Required:
Masters or equivalent experience.  

Required Qualifications: Higher education experience.. Demonstrated success with staff supervision and motivation. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and resolve conflicts. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion specific to historically minoritized and marginalized communities. Supervisory, staff development and performance management experience.  Strong project management skills. Demonstrated success working in complex and high-pace work environment.  Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive management experience at a large college or university admissions office working specifically with academic colleges or schools or admissions or recruitment leadership experience in an academic college or school is highly desired; experience with databases navigation, interpretation and querying; highly desired; experience with database and spreadsheet programs desired; high degree of organizational skills and the ability to swiftly and adeptly manage multiple projects and shifting priorities at one time.
