Position Description

The Associate Director of Advising serves as a member of the Office of Advising & Academic Support (OAAS) leadership team with responsibilities for pursuing the mission and strategic goals of the office, as well as the Beaver College of Health Sciences. The Associate Director advises a student caseload and oversees the utilization and management of in-house academic advising technology. Services provided by this position include managing a team of academic advisors and providing professional support and guidance to promote timely assistance and accurate information to college constituents. The Associate Director encourages accountability, communication, and teamwork while advocating for resources and policies that allow advisors to carry out their responsibilities in an efficient manner.


Assisting with the daily operations of the Office of Advising and Academic Support; advising a caseload of approximately 65-75% of full-time advisors; supervising and authorizing time for academic advisors; serving as the subject matter expert for advising technology workflow; maintaining and/or fixing issues related to in-house advising technology tools; providing/supporting professional development activities for advisors; interviewing and training new advisors; managing advising caseloads by adjusting numbers to create balance; covering advising caseloads for vacant positions with assistance as needed; addressing student/parent concerns as needed; facilitating presentations about the BCHS advising process; serving on the University Advising Council; coordinating staff coverage for commencement, open house, and similar events for the College; assisting with gathering data for assessment needs; collaborating with others to create and maintain advising procedure manuals and guides for sustaining in-house advising technology tools; and other duties or special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

a Master’s degree from an accredited institution; five years of experience working with students in a higher education setting related to advising; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; strong organizational ability with attention to detail and accuracy; and proficiency using Google Suite, degree-auditing software (preferably DegreeWorks), as well as other office technology.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in student development, counseling, education, or a related field; mastery of Google Sheets
