Position Description

The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the academic operations of all MS programs, as well as MS joint degree programs with other schools in the university. The Associate Director will oversee the operational activities related to academic advising and provide supervision to all Graduate Advisors for the MS programs. This position will have responsibility for ensuring the implementation and periodic revision of policies and procedures related to academic advising, as well as the maintenance of accurate student records. The Associate Director will maintain a small caseload of MS students and will provide accurate, timely and informed academic advising to those students. The Associate Director will collaborate with the EBL Program Manager to coordinate orientation programming for all full-time MS students, and will also contribute to the planning of professional development programming throughout the academic year. This position will oversee the preparation of critical academic reports for all MS programs each semester, including: graduation certification, academic probation and dismissal, statute of limitations, and Dean’s List. This position is also responsible for the analysis of each semester’s course schedule and the proposal of schedule changes for subsequent semesters. Additionally, this position supports the Director in managing departmental budgets. This position is responsible for regularly communicating with MS Faculty Directors, to provide alignment between Program Office initiatives and the academic curriculum. This position will also regularly interact with faculty and staff from academic programs at other schools within the University in order to maintain efficient and effective operation of joint degree programs. This position is highly visible in the student MS population and the Katz Graduate School of Business, and moderately visible to segments of the University, and has a significant impact in upholding and improving student satisfaction through the oversight of academic operations. This position frequently works with students of diverse backgrounds, especially international students and students from historically underrepresented demographics, and must prioritize inclusive practices and intercultural competency.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Previous experience providing supervision and/or training of employees is preferred. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices is strongly preferred. High level of competence in written communication, interpersonal relations, problem solving, team leadership and oral communication required to fulfill many job functions without direct supervision. Competent decision-making of small to medium complexity issues, with rapid escalation of highly complex issues to director. Must have basic skills in computer systems and PC word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software.
