Position Description

JOB SUMMARY: This position requires the incumbent to provide operations management for School of Art courses: monitor enrollment counts, make recommendations regarding course cancellations and added sections, support the creation of new interdisciplinary courses, and use judgment to offer seats in School of Art courses to interested students from the Schools of Architecture and Engineering.


With guidance from the Dean, in consultation with the faculty, and in accordance with the curriculum of the School of Art, create and publish course schedules for each term.
Make recommendations to the Dean regarding curricular issues.
Assist the Office of Academic Advisement with student registration and add/drop, tracking student progress, and troubleshooting student problems.
Write, edit, and revise documents (e.g., course schedules and descriptions, catalog copy, Adjunct Faculty Handbook), memoranda, and correspondence.
Compile data and write reports for outside accrediting. (NASAD, Middle States Commission on Higher Education.)
Assist with faculty personnel matters (appointments, searches, promotion and tenure.)
Hold primary responsibility within the School of Art for room scheduling.
Assist in organization of master calendar of School of Art meetings and events.
Track and document student leaves of absence, reinstatements, and withdrawals from the School of Art Assist the Dean with verification of final grades.
Assist with selection and disbursement of student prizes.
Serve on Commencement Committee
Provide administrative support for the standing committees of the School of Art and The Faculty of the School of Art; serve as secretary to the Administrative Committee.
Collaborate with other Cooper Union schools and administrative offices (Dean of Students, Registrar, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Business Office, Development, Continuing Education) regarding academic matters and faculty and student issues

Required Qualifications

Experience in academic affairs administration or in college registrar’s office or as a department course scheduler. An interest in working with a talented and creative, often first-generation college attending, student population. Involvement in professional associations such as AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.) Outstanding communication skills. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
