Position Description

Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an individual to fill the role of CSCI Student Success Advisor to assist students in accessing and completing applications, registration, and financial aid resources and requirements. This position will guide every student to choose the right educational pathway to achieve their career goals by employing labor market information and career development strategies while focusing on building academic schedules to enhance student access.

Duties

The Advisor will promote SingleStop registration to enhance student access of available external support systems, and perform intrusive advising measure to increase retention and completion rates among students.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field higher education
• Must be familiar with Southwest programs of study and student support service
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as a team or independently
• Demonstrated ability work with students from a wide spectrum of ages and from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
• Excellent computer skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to write/prepare reports
• Excellent time management skills with demonstrated ability to produce deliverables on time

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in human services or a related field preferred
• Higher education experience with advising or student support preferred
