Position Description

The Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Akron is seeking an experienced, innovative and versatile professional to be its Director of Communication and Marketing. The position will report to the Dean of the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, the largest degree-granting college at UA, consisting of 23+ schools and departments and centers, approximately 4200 students and more than 500 full and part-time faculty. The director will enhance and manage the communications and marketing efforts of the college to strengthen its future, attract and retain talented students, faculty and staff members, and develop stronger ties to alumni and the community.

Duties

Essential Functions of this position will be to:
Develop and execute communications and marketing plans to further enhance the college’s reputation. These plans will take advantage of such channels as print, digital and social media, interpersonal and others. Devise and carry out plans to build and strengthen relationships with important audiences, including students, faculty / staff, community, alumni and donors. Prepare news releases and feature stories about the college and its events; create regular internal and external messaging, including newsletters, brochures, social media, etc. to support initiatives. Measure the effectiveness of all communications and marketing initiatives, and revise plans accordingly to increase effectiveness. Plan, promote and carry out special events as needed. Coordinate and collaborate with other UA units, including University Communications & Marketing, Development, Alumni Relations, and Admissions to ensure consistency, continuity of the institutional brand, college-level brand and key messaging that dovetails with the University-level strategic plan and uses resources efficiently. Assist the college’s schools and departments with their communication needs.
