Columbia Basin College (CBC) is accepting applications for Director for Advising, Retention & Completion. This position is responsible for the administration of the College’s comprehensive academic advising/caseload program and will be part of the College’s Guided Pathways work. The Director will oversee academic advising and work with the college community by providing the framework for the continued redesign of the student advising experience. The Director is responsible for the management and supervision of Completion Coaches, hourly and student employees within the Advising Center. This position will report to the Dean for Student Retention & Completion. This position is open until filled. Conduct all operational aspects of the Advising, Retention & Completion Center (the “Advising Center”), including supervision of Completion Coaches; administer an overall proactive caseload advising program that focuses on student success and provides vision to the Guided Pathways core teams in support of working towards the common goal of student retention and completion; Interpret and apply academic and campus policy and procedure, as well as promote and analyze best practices in advising to the college advising community in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Student Retention and Completion; Recommend the hiring, dismissal and disciplinary action of employees within the department, monitor performance and work through personnel issues; properly document employee performance and administer employee evaluations; Identify appropriate trainings/workshops for staff training and professional development as needed; schedule and facilitate regular staff meetings; Work in partnership with Completion Coaches, other advising staff, faculty and Guided Pathways core teams to help students get on a path and develop individual education plans for their area of study; Implement and maintain Guided Pathways, student retention and caseload advising software to track student progress monitoring, and intervention strategies to ensure student success; Develop, promote and support instructional and student support connections that foster and enhance student success; Oversee the transfer processes through constant and continuous communication with other colleges and universities; additionally, oversee the efforts to bring other colleges onto campus for individualized informational sessions with students interested in specific programs; Serve as a key member of the team and provide a strong influential presence within the Student Services division and involved in campus wide student success and retention initiatives; Within the context of Guided Pathways and student success, set strategic goals, and make decisions and recommendations based on extensive research and the input obtained from the appropriate constituencies within the College (Instruction, Enrollment Services, Student Support Services, Career Services, etc.); Collaborate with Institutional Research to plan, facilitate and conduct research related to advising, Guided Pathways and student retention and completion; Develop and implement strategic enrollment outreach campaigns to ensure that CBC meets or exceeds student retention goals, while analyzing and utilizing data to strategically plan for desired outcomes; Maintain control over department budget and responsibility for appropriate utilization of funds to support department activities; oversee ordering of supplies and/or equipment; complete or process requisitions, invoices and P-cards; Ensure equitable advising services are provided by focusing on diversity, inclusion, and social justice best practices; Serve as a point of contact in coordinating Guided Pathways strategies, implementation and evaluation in collaboration with Instructional Services; Collaborate with Enrollment Services to develop and implement Guided Pathways, equity centered onboarding, orientation, advising, and First Year Introduction for new, transfer and returning students; Provide timely and accurate proactive advising to students on our pathways, degrees, certificates, courses, college policies and procedures as well as campus resources; and Perform related duties as required.

Master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university; Three (3) years of experience as an academic advisor and/or counselor in an institution of higher education; Three (3) years of experience in a management and leadership position that includes supervising staff, budget oversight and strategic planning; and Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint.
Bilingual in Spanish/English; Familiarity with integrating online and web-based tools and student management systems to support academic advising and student support initiatives; Knowledge of student development theory and experience in caseload, proactive advising models; and Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
