Position Description

Regional Student Services (Hamilton Campus): Full-time, Temporary E-Campus Academic Advisor to provide accurate and current curricular information for students pursuing baccalaureate and associate degrees offered at Miami University with a special focus on Miami University Regionals, College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science, degrees and programs, E-Campus majors, and on-line learners.


The E-Campus Academic Advisor will be responsible for:
• Collaboration with advising and E-Campus to coordinate and implement outreach interventions focused on retention and academic success of on-line learners
• Assisting students with petition processes for academic actions and transfer credits, as appropriate
• Supporting the Office of Admission during recruitment and enrollment events, providing advising information for prospective students and their families to serve as an expert in E-Campus majors, including major requirements, transfer credit, and articulation agreements
• Participating in academic advising services with the Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration program (SOAR) with special emphasis on E-Campus programs
• Establishing relationships with faculty advisors in E-Campus majors and campus partners to provide on-going training and communication
• Partnering with academic advisors across the University to ensure consistency in advising
• Utilizing career development resources to assist students to identify appropriate major options
• Utilizing advising tools such as DARS/u.Achieve,, SSC Campus/Navigate, EAB, MyMajors/career development resources, Canvas, and SCT Banner, in addition to the Google Suite
• Instructing up to three credit hours per term of student success course work, such as UNV 101: I am Miami, as needed
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications

Requirements: Master’s degree, preferably in student affairs, counseling or related field upon appointment, at least one year of experience, post-baccalaureate, in academic advising and/or related student development programs in a university or community college setting. Relevant experience gained during a graduate program may also apply. Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

Considerations will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
• An understanding of student development theory and an understanding of the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education
• Experience in working with diverse student populations including international students
• Experience with online learning
• Excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), interpersonal, collaborative skills, organization, and technological skills
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff
