Position Description
Elon University invites applications for the position of Executive Director of the Koenigsberger Learning Center and Director of Academic Advising. The Executive Director is responsible for the vision and strategic direction of three academic support programs: academic advising, learning assistance, and disabilities resources. The executive director works collaboratively with KLC staff and university leadership to ensure that excellent student-centered programs and best practice services are accessible, maintained and developed, and routinely assessed for quality improvement. The executive director will possess outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships within the KLC and across the university. The executive director will value partnerships between the KLC and principals in the co-located Carol Grotnes Belk Library to continue strengthening a learning commons approach to academic success that supports students, faculty, and staff.Essential operations of the three programs within the Koenigsberger Learning Center include:Academic Advising Center. Professional advising staff provide supplemental advising regarding curriculum, policy, and degree requirements to all students and faculty/staff academic advisors. Recruitment, training, and management of first-year advisors and peer leaders in over 100 sections of Elon 101, a first-year advising seminar, is managed by a director within the advising center. Additional advising activities include oversight for fall registration of all new students, support for students in academic difficulty, data entry for major declaration and major changes to include securing advisor assignments, peer leader training to include curriculum development, advisor orientation as requested by departments and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, and advising workshops.Learning Assistance. The director of learning assistance supports the instructional enterprise by hiring, training, and supervising peer tutors who provide both content area tutoring and learning strategy tutoring through a drop-in or by-appointment schedule. Supplemental instruction exists on a limited basis with plans to expand. The tutoring program has achieved level one College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification and seeks to achieve level two.Disabilities Resources. The director of disabilities resources and staff work to ensure accessible, welcoming, and legally compliant policy and practices that allow 1,200+ qualified undergraduate and graduate students access to university curricula and programs. Other services include proctoring tests, hiring and training undergraduate peer note-takers and academic coaches, counseling students for self-advocacy, and educating the campus around the legal and ethical commitment to serve this diverse population as well as inclusive pedagogical strategies.Reporting to the associate provost for curriculum and assessment within academic affairs, this position directly supervises and promotes the professional development of the Director of Disabilities Resources, the Director of Learning Assistance, four Assistant Directors of Academic Advising, and a program assistant. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity that will support the inclusive climate within the Koenigsberger Learning Center and the Elon University community.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
A doctoral degree is required

Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education with an employment history demonstrating leadership and supervision.Demonstrated supervisory experience with professional staff, including conducting performance reviews and supporting staff professional development goals.Demonstrated implementation of best practices based on awareness of broader higher educational environments and trends.
