Programmatic and Administrative Responsibilities (60%)
• Manage the College of Engineering’s Engineering Peer Educator (EPE) program:
o Work closely with Associate Director of Advising & Student Engagement on vision-setting for and implementation of EPE program in conjunction with Engineering First-year Interest Group (E-FIG) program.
o Lead intentional recruitment and selection process to yield around 50 EPEs and 2-3 Lead EPEs who represent all engineering majors and reflect a myriad of student identities and experiences.
o Manage ENGR 498 course (1-3 credits) to train and support EPEs in spring and fall quarters.Lead curriculum development, co-teach class sessions with Lead EPEs, oversee grading, etc. Coordinate speakers to support EPE personal and professional development (examples include DEI facilitators, Career Center representatives, CoE departmental advisers, UW Mental Health Services, CoE alumni, etc.)
o Supervise two Lead Engineering Peer Educator(s) (and possibility of one EPE Development Coordinator); meet regularly to plan ENGR 498 class sessions; provide feedback on their facilitation of sessions and support their development through quarterly performance evaluations.
o Plan and implement EPE orientation in winter, EPE retreat in spring, EPE pre-quarter training in fall, EPE involvement in summer Advising & Orientation sessions, and other supplementary workshops/experiences to prepare and support EPEs in their roles.
o Meet regularly with the Program Manager for UW First Year Interest Groups about ENGR 498 and other administrative aspects of the program.
o Partner with First-Year Programs on Engineering First Year Interest Group (E-FIG) course clustering and designation of EPE teaching sections in spring.
o Support EPE classroom concerns in the fall and lead outreach to first-year ENGRUD students in GEN ST 199 courses who are not meeting class requirements/expectations.
o Administer regular student learning outcome-based assessment for ENGR 498 and create a brief report synthesizing results and goals for the next year.
o Plan quarterly interactions (e.g. one-on-one meetings) between EPEs and academic advisers, lesson plan review for GEN ST 199, and teaching evaluation materials for EPE cohort with support from the advising team.
o Collaborate with various partners including Advancement, Emerging Leaders in Engineering program managers, CoE departmental advisers, UW Staff Teaching Community, etc.
o Maintain connections with EPE alumni. Manage EPE LinkedIn group; create opportunities for mentorship between current and former EPEs.
• Assist in the delivery of the college's major programs such as Admitted Student Preview Day, Advising & Orientation, Engineering Launch, Engineering Exploration Night, etc.
• Review and assess students' Placement Request Forms to support the placement process of Engineering Undeclared students into engineering majors.
• Provide one-on-one developmental advising for a caseload of around 250 Engineering Undeclared students. This includes helping students: make connections between their strengths, interests, and values and the university curriculum; develop a sense of purpose in their undergraduate education; seek out clubs, internships, undergraduate research opportunities, and personal development; overcome difficulties that hinder their academic performance; integrate their education and career plans; develop transferable, lifelong skills (i.e. critical thinking, communication, reflection); interpret departmental, College and University requirements; navigate the complexity of a large institution.
• Provide regular, high volume drop-in advising hours accessible to all ENGRUD students.
• Perform outreach and strengths-based advising to students on advising caseload who are on warning, probation, or who are not meeting continuation requirements.
• Connect with other campus units (Undergraduate Academic Affairs Academic Advising, First Year Programs, Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, Student Athlete Academic Services, University Honors Program, etc.) as necessary to provide holistic advising services to Engineering Undeclared students.
Support Student Academic Services Team (5%)
• Assist with supporting front desk employees on issues relating to triaging email, telephone, and walk-in inquiries. Provide back-up support to the engradv email account.
• Contribute to the process of updating engineering major sample four-year plans annually.
• Participate regularly in professional development activities to support learning, growth, and best practices.
• Perform duties as assigned by the Associate Director to support the broader goals of the Student Academic Services team.
