Position Description

Located at CWU- Ellensburg, this position provides academic advising and degree planning support to students who have decided or have an intended major in the College of Business and also provides coordination in several administrative areas of College of Business advising. This position provides undergraduate advising regarding CWU’s general education curriculum, university requirements, as well as all the major degree programs and minor programs offered within the College of Business. Academic Advisors provide interventions for students with academic alerts and provide additional support to students on warning and probation. Academic Advisors Ensure quality, holistic, personalized advising services to a student population with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds, including first generation, Non-traditional, and Underserved students. This position is vital to the success of students in the College of Business. - Proactively manage a caseload of undergraduate students, providing academic advising, timely intervention, and appropriate referrals, as necessary
- Provide outreach and support to students to considered at risk by the College of Business
- Advise students about general education and pre-major or major requirements
- Maintain a consistent pattern of contact to encourage a trusting relationship through multiple channels of communication
- Advise students about general education and pre-major or major requirements
- Explain different programs and options within the College of Business to both external and internal prospective students
- Assist students with course articulation and advise prospective and incoming transfer students to assist with their academic transition to the College of Business
- Help students to make informed academic decisions, use and interpret their Academic Requirements Report, progress efficiently towards degree completion, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and to utilize the tools and resources available.
- Conduct audits on student progress toward degree completion
- Recommend appropriate academic course loads and course selections
- Analyze, interpret, and explain student data, transcripts, and placement results, as well as university policy and procedures
- Design and deliver presentations to various audiences
- Develop strong working relationships with academic departments, programs, faculty, and staff across campus - Responsible for coordinating Academic Jeopardy and the end of term review process to identify/follow up with students on warning, probation, and/or considered at risk. This includes running queries to identify at-risk students, making decisions regarding students being pre-major or major admitted under academic jeopardy, establishing the timeline for advisor and director review, coordinating the communication to students regarding their status, and following up regarding enforcement of the decisions made by the director regarding course enrollment limits.
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of first year and transfer student orientation for Ellensburg, College of Business
- Responsible for the Early Transfer Admission (ETA) program within the College of Business. This includes running queries to identify and monitor the status of students admitted under ETA, developing outreach content and materials for students and advisors at participating schools, and serving as a connection for participating students.
- Responsible for coordinating the update and review of all academic advising materials and managing the College of Business Advising website
- Serve as a back up to the Director on select committees and in meetings related to College of Business Advising
- Lead College of Business Advising meetings as needed
- Collaborate with other advisors and staff across the campus to advance academic advising at CWU. This position is expected to participate as an active member of the university academic advising community and maintain compliance with advising standards, mandatory advisor trainings, and to engage in available and approved professional development opportunities as recommended
- Support new student orientation and new student program activities where academic advising is concerned, providing information and support to new students and their families
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in any field
-Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences
-Three years’ experience as an academic advisor in a college setting
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Demonstrated ability to use Word, Excel, email and/or similar software applications to produce professional written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, and receive and respond to email inquiries, tasks, etc.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently to accomplish tasks and projects
-OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position

-Master’s degree
-Experience with implementation of solutions to facilitate student success, retention, and graduation
-Experience working with a large student database system
-Experience working with transfer students
-Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students through programming
-Verbal and written communication skills in Spanish
-Experience working with students on academic warning or probation
