Position Description

Duties will be assigned based on the background, experience, and interests of the successful applicant. The instructor contributes significantly to the management and implementation of all faculty development programs in the Leadership and Excellence in Academic Development unit and teaches in one of the Master of Education courses. This position is mission critical to the offering of programming to support the development of our faculty in all schools.

Duties

Essential Functions
• The Instructor Responsibilities include the following:
o Work closely with the Director of the Leadership and Excellence in Academic Development (LEAD) Division to plan, support, implement and evaluate the SGU’s faculty development initiatives in all areas of course and instructional development for the Schools of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Arts and Sciences and Graduate Studies
o Consult with individual faculty and groups (I.e., departments, or other groups of faculty members, such as in focused faculty development offerings)) across a variety of disciplines and across all ranks on pedagogy (such as teaching strategies, course design, leading project teams, scholarship (all stages of scholarship) and professional development
o Assist schools, chairs, course directors, faculty and administration with accreditation compliance as related to instruction and evaluation of teaching and student success
o Contribute to the development of policy on matters affecting teaching and learning in consultation with the Director, LEAD
o Contribute to educational research related to LEAD work and projects as determined by the Director, LEAD
o Work on special projects and tasks in collaboration with, and at the request of the Director of LEAD and the Chair of DES
o Provide administrative coordination support for the MEd including regular communication with students and faculty about program policies and updates, maintain Sakai course sites and the program handbook, coordination with registrar prior to each term to enroll students in courses and at the end of each term to submit grades, ensure alignment of MEd with School of Graduate Studies policies, manage MEd course and program revision process through the School of Graduate Studies
o Coordinate Visiting Professor visits
o Coordinate Certificates in University Teaching and Learning program
o Coordinate New Faculty Orientation
o Teach up to one course per term in the MEd program as needed
o Support research projects across LEAD and in the MEd program
o Create mechanisms to enhance faculty learning transfer and track impact/transfer including administering and monitoring data collection and analysis to make recommendations to LEAD FD at the end of each term.

Broader integrated DES administrative requirements:
o Experience and knowledge of Student Support and Development (especially Learning Strategies), for input and integration of DES activities, on a practical and theoretical basis, when working with and across LEAD
o Experience in administrative components of an integrated academic development unit to contribute to project management and planning in LEAD and DES
o Experience in medical education
