Position Description

Florida Gulf Coast University is currently looking to fill multiple Student Success Counselor positions across multiple levels. Student Success Counselors assist and contribute to university goals and priorities in the areas of retention, persistence, and timely graduation while playing a key role in helping students fulfill their collegiate goals that enables them to secure a job in their desired profession. With Florida Gulf Coast University experiencing double-digit enrollment increases along with a record high in applications, admits, and deposits, this is an ideal time for Student Success Counselors to consider joining a university with a strong student success focus, move to Southwest Florida where the economy is strong and poised for growth in the coming decade. The University has three counselor level positions: Student Success Counselor, Student Success Counseling Specialist, and Senior Student Success Counselor; finalists will be offered positions based on their level of experience.

Duties

The Student Success Counselor assists and counsels students in their academic pursuits by providing guidance in course selection, degree planning, broader educational goals, and graduation requirements in multiple disciplines. Student Success Counselors work with students to develop program plans of study plans that align with degree requirements and career aspirations. Assists and guides students through their college transition and academic milestones. Through data analytics, Student Success Counselors monitor student progress to identify potential pitfalls, recommends university-wide resources with knowledge of financial assistance, and helps find solutions and interventions to physical or psychological difficulties associated with learning. The Student Success Counselor will also work with other personnel to help develop and execute intervention strategies that will improve retention and graduation rates.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Student Success Counselor
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field. One year of professional full-time experience in higher education student services. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Student Success Counseling Specialist Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field. Three years of professional full-time experience in retention-focused academic advising, student success coaching, academic counseling, or at the level of Student Success Counselor. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Experience administering and interpreting major and career assessment tools (e.g. Self-Directed Search, MyPlan, Discover, etc.). Experience administering and interpreting degree planning / degree audit tools and other advising tools (e.g. Degree Works, Workday Student, Salesforce, Starfish, etc…) Experience using and interpreting data analytics tools and dashboards (e.g. Tableau, etc…) Experience in student financial aid and enrollment services processes and practices Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Senior Student Success Counselor Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field. Six years of professional full-time experience in retention-focused academic advising, student success coaching, academic counseling, or at the level of Student Success Counseling Specialist. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Experience administering and interpreting major and career assessment tools (e.g. Self-Directed Search, MyPlan, Discover, etc.).
