Position Description

The purpose of this position is to provide advising, intervention and transfer information to Engineering declared majors. The Advisor collaborates with the College’s Outreach and Recruitment Department to provide Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) information to prospective students and works closely with the Department Chair and Engineering faculty. The Advisor assists students in overcoming challenges to their education goals in Engineering by conducting intervention and advising of at-risk and academically unprepared students; identifying College and community resources available to students; assisting students with information on available financial aid; tutoring and supplemental instruction (SI) assistance; facilitating problem resolutions between faculty and students; assisting students with registering for classes; and assisting students with transfer information to four year institutions. This position provides a support service to the Academic Dean and Department Chair to identify need for transfer and articulation agreements with four year institutions and assist with reverse transcripts from four year institutions. And other duties as assigned.

Duties

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint software programs. Ability to exhibit good organization, management and interpersonal skills. Possess good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to conduct student oriented workshops.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering. One year related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field. Higher education environment experience. Student outreach experience. Knowledge in interpreting the College’s core curriculum catalog. Knowledge of the Texas Higher Education Assessment Standards and the Texas Common Course Numbering System. Understanding of the College’s general admissions requirement; financial aid requirements; Engineering department requirements; and academic support services.
