A self-starter, the undergraduate recruiter and academic advisor will serve (1) as the leader for undergraduate recruitment, and (2) as an academic advisor to undergraduate students and to provide student services support for the College of Information and Communications’ Office of Student Services. The recruiter/advisor will also manage the recruitment efforts for undergraduates that includes creating a recruitment strategy to meet enrollment goals. The recruiter/advisor also will counsel and advise undergraduate students pertaining to academic planning and progression, study abroad, engagement on campus, leadership opportunities and career pathways. Advisors communicate and meet regularly with students and possess a working knowledge of the college curriculum, university policy, and campus resources.
Undergraduate Advising Advise a caseload of approximately 150 students and respond to general questions regarding course availability, forms and graduation timeline. Attend advising staff meetings and hold office hours to speak to students. Initially, serve as the BSIS representative for announcements, newsletter, and the list serv. Program Liaison Work with CIC advisors as an Information Science program liaison for CIC committees (scholarships, petitions, curriculum) and events (Welcome Wednesday, Admitted Student Day), and provide input to the BSIS faculty lead as well as the BSIS committee. Undergraduate Recruiter Overall, tasked with increasing enrollment for majors and minors across the college, primarily through on-campus recruiting, though some off-campus recruitment is required. Serve as a campus and community recruiter primarily for the information science program at this time. Attend necessary admissions/ recruiting events on behalf of undergraduate programs and student services. Serve as secondary admissions/recruiting council representative as needed by the Assistant Dean for Student Services. Provide updated enrollment data and reports, including alumni tracking information, in conjunction with the student services manager and the alumni relations manager. Develop and execute a measurable recruitment strategy using in-person meetings, activities, online campaigns, google ad words and other successful mechanisms for recruiting undergraduate students. Introducing best practices for increasing student enrollment. Developing and managing innovative programs to attract students to the college (e.g., hackathons, workshops, skills-develop programs, receptions, movie nights, talks, recruiting outside college for study abroad). Utilizing all available means to publicize majors/minors. Managing on-campus tours and all prospective student/parent visits. Off-campus recruitment opportunities to include managing visits from high-school students and working with college leadership to recruit from community college and system 2-year schools. Experience with academic advising in higher educational setting. Experience with working with college students is preferred in one or more of the following areas: academic advising, curriculum planning and college teaching; supporting and advising graduate students; program planning; general student affairs administration within a diverse campus in an urban setting. Knowledge of student development, USC systems, and USC policies and procedures preferred. Experience with social media and search engine optimization tools also preferred.
