Position Description

The Senior Academic Advisor will support the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS). The primary advising area will be for undergraduate students in the Department of Psychological Sciences. Responsibilities include academic advising current students and meeting with prospective students and their families. Additional college-wide academic responsibilities may include: researching best practices, assisting with training current and new academic advisors; serving on committees; and administrative work.


Communication, teaching, student academic advising, recruiting, and academic administrative duties.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, or counseling
  • Knowledge of academic advising
  • Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy
  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
  • Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Possess a learning orientation to changing technology
  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of undergraduate student recruitment
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
  • Familiarity with MyPurdue, Banner, COGNOS
  • Knowledge of developmental learning theories
