Position Description

Under general supervision, provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students in assigned majors/programs within Languages & Literatures. Independently handle admission processes including freshman and transfer student orientations. Interpret and implement policies, and administer undergraduate activities for assigned departments. Provide administrative and program development support to faculty members. Manage quality assessment and policy development.

Required Qualifications

1. Experience advising and guiding diverse students in a University setting. Knowledge of student development, career development and student learning theories.
2. Demonstrated organizational, time management, and decision making skills to work productively, independently, and accurately in spite of frequent interruptions.
3. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills including handling difficult/unpleasant situations and/or individuals including identifying problems and needs and developing solutions and/or making appropriate referrals; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, by telephone, and by video conferencing.
4. Experience exercising initiative and independent judgment in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
5. Demonstrated writing, editing and proofreading skills to answer correspondence, produce reports, and develop informational materials.
6. Demonstrated analytical and research skills to obtain and analyze data and develop statistics from a variety of campus sources. Ability to retrieve and assemble information for the preparation of reports, schedules, correspondence, etc.
7. Experience using a variety of computer software. Ability to learn campus-specific software quickly.

3. Experience developing outreach/recruitment/retention programming.
4. Knowledge of statewide, national and international college and university programs and resources.
5. Knowledge of UC Davis resources, policies, procedures, and deadlines related to undergraduate student advising, instruction, and confidentiality.
6. Experience accessing, entering, and maintaining information in student information software (such as Banner and OASIS).
7. Experience creating social media and web content.
8. Bilingual.
