Clemson University’s General Engineering Advising Center is looking for a Student Services Program Coordinator II. The individual hired for this position will also be our Student Success coordinator. The coordinator ensures students have a smooth transition into General Engineering and provides students with support throughout their first year. They will assist students in transitioning to college-level academics and in learning to balance academic, personal, and work responsibilities. The coordinator will identify and assist with implementation and assessment of student success and retention initiatives. They will also coordinate student success programs for General Engineering students such as Success Matters and other programs for our students in academic difficulty. The coordinator will also serve as liaison to first-year retention initiatives at the College (e.g. GELC, RISE, PEER/WISE).
In addition to these responsibilities they will be asked to fulfill the following duties:
• Advise and support undergraduate General Engineering students to aid in timely and successful degree progress.
• Assess student needs and identify and refer students to resources.
• Develop and implement student programs to support retention and engagement.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Advising and Counseling (60%):
Advises and counsels students on course selection, registration procedures, academic progress, University policies, major selection, engagement opportunities, and personal development to help students understand expectations and requirements. Develops and maintains confidential records. Identifies student issues and refers students to other campus resources as needed. Determines if students have completed requirements to declare their intended Engineering major ensuring a smooth transition.
Plans and organizes at least one initiative (e.g. outreach and developmental programming, orientation, bridge and transfer programs, advisor training, advising communications, software implementation, and supervision of student workers) to support retention of students. Maintains schedule, manages logistics, recruits participants for initiatives, communicates and reports on program outcomes. Guides the work of other advisors and staff participating in these initiatives. Attends relevant meetings and serves as liaison for the department.
Participation in Initiatives (20%):
Participates in departmental, College, and University wide initiatives related to advising and student success by providing additional staff support, knowledge, and expertise to ensure a successful program. Assists with College recruiting and engagement programming as needed.
