Position Description

The Study Abroad Advisor will join a team of professionals within UC International, called UC International Programs (Study Abroad), that is dedicated to students traveling abroad. UC International is the university-wide unit, within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost, for serving international students and scholars, education abroad students, as well as the development of the university's international strategic planning. UC International seeks to hire a Study Abroad Advisor to support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and other activities. Feel free to browse our website to get a feel for our office and our programs at The Study Abroad Advisor will provide general support to UC students interested in studying abroad. The position aids students in assessing and selecting a study abroad program that meets their academic goal and is responsible for providing pre-travel administrative support to students. The Study Abroad Advisor will be mentored and trained to provide logistical support to assist faculty members with course and program planning with study abroad programs. Additionally, the position will promote study abroad program options in a variety of online and face to face settings. UC International Programs (Study Abroad) seeks to continue as a highly organized office and offer well-run programs with outstanding customer service to students and faculty program leaders.


Essential Functions
-Conduct group advising sessions for pre-travel support for outgoing individual students on semester, summer, or co-op abroad.
-Manage information sessions in a group setting for students interested in going abroad.
-Present at pre-departure orientations.
-Advise and provide administrative support students through pre-travel, travel and post-travel requirements for study abroad.
-Conduct advising appointments through face-to-face (or online) meetings, email and telephone depending on the student’s availability.
-Assist students in selecting a study abroad program that is right for the student and meets their academic goals and intentions.
-Assist in coordinating the faculty-led study abroad programs and assist students with questions for such programs.
-Responsible for study abroad program planning and logistics, program budgets, processing program invoices and payments, and working directly with the faculty leader of the program.
-Provide general marketing and promotion of study abroad and its programs to students and the campus community.
-May be required to travel internationally to assist and co-lead a study abroad program with a faculty member.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

-Competitive salary range of $40,000 - $42,000 dependent on the candidate's experience.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's Degree
-Experience living, working or studying abroad.

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience working with college students, including students with diverse backgrounds.
-Ability to interact with faculty, students, administrators, and others in a highly professional manner.
-A demonstrated interest in promoting study abroad.
-Strong computer skills to navigate required university computer systems and standard suite of office software, primarily MS Office with strong navigation of MS Excel.
-Strong organizational skills.
-Motivated, proactive, detail oriented and ability to work independently in the completion of job duties.
-Master’s degree preferred.
