Position Summary: The Department of Emergency Medicine, EMS Academy is very excited to announce that we are hiring a Supervisor, Support Specialist. This position is key to the success of our degree program and to facilitating UNM students and prospective students work toward degree completion, adding to overall graduation rate at UNM. The EMS Academy's program has several hundred in-major and pre-major students and also a pipeline of degree completion students. The Supervisor, Student Success will manage the student pipeline into the program. They will supervise a small number of staff and student employees and work closely with students, faculty and the Director to ensure that students are progressing through the program. In providing consultation, guidance and advisement to students, advanced knowledge of the unique needs, concerns, and issues facing our diverse students population is needed. Also required is an ability to direct and manage multiple priorities, effectively analyze a range of educational and work-related situations, and make sound decisions using effective time management skills, good business acumen, and balanced administrative judgment, to the benefit of the University. In supporting the mission of the University, Department, and EMS Academy, this role will plan, develop and operationalize all recruitment and outreach strategies for the EMS degree program. As part of this effort they will work with other internal and external entities, including branch and community college partner campuses, providing the guidance necessary for other institutions to complete their program planning. These activities are designed to attract, retain, and serve our diverse populations of students. They will also serve statewide on committees or task forces involving multiple institutional and outside entities to represent the interests of our student population as well as the department and University. These responsibilities enrich the academic experience and promote outreach and retention efforts for our diverse student population and require strong interpersonal and communication skills and effective collaboration with the wide range of constituencies that UNM serves. The ideal candidate will: possess advanced knowledge of the unique needs, concerns, and issues facing our diverse students population; have the ability to direct and manage multiple priorities, effectively analyze a range of educational situations, and make sound decisions using effective time management skills, good business acumen, and balanced administrative judgment: be able to competently define, establish, and initiate advising structures and procedures; be able to address and resolves all escalated student support related issues; have the ability to coordinate, schedule, and evaluate the work of personnel to ensure quality of service to students as well as skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities; and possess skill in facilitating problem solving with individuals regarding personal, professional and/or academic priorities and strong organizational and critical thinking skills. This position requires knowledge and comprehensive understanding of student records management principles, regulations, policies, and procedures. Also required is the ability to develop and deliver programs, workshops, and related presentations that meet student needs via effective presentations to large and small audiences. It will also require knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and university regulations as well as knowledge and understanding of ADA regulations, guidelines and standards as applicable to an academic setting and knowledge of NCAA student-athlete academic eligibility requirements when applicable. Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
• Master's degree related to education and/or student support.
• Proven leadership and management skills in a highly productive higher education setting.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in providing student support to undergraduate students through all stages of their educational path.
• Demonstrated knowledge and comprehensive understanding of student records management principles, regulations, policies, and procedures, specifically as they relate to undergraduate students.
• Evidence of a career that includes a strong work ethic with a proven track record of project completion, multi-tasking, and the ability to handle fast-paced and high-stakes environments.
• Demonstrated understanding of the complexities and multi-faceted components of emergency medical services.
