Position Description

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a Federal outreach and student service project designed to provide services for limited-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of a college degree. TRIO SSS provides direct support services to students in the form of academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, and other supports necessary to increase the persistence, graduation, and transfer of participants. These two positions are funded by a grant from the Department of Education in conjunction with ACC. We expect funding for a new 5-year grant cycle to begin September 1, 2020. These positions are contingent upon notice of award.

Duties

TRIO Student Success Advisors will employ a proactive, intentional, and holistic advising approach to look for and mitigate issues, concerns, and roadblocks to student success. This includes academic advising, financial aid, financial literacy, transfer, career, and personal development advising. The TRIO SSS Advisors will coordinate academic support activities such as tutoring, service-learning leadership projects, and community events.
Additionally, the TRIO Student Success Advisor will:
• Develop and implement outreach and referral pathways to recruit prospective TRIO participants.
• Participate in the intake process for TRIO SSS participants to include conducting orientations, interviews, and needs assessments.
• Coordinate and teach TRIO SSS Summer Bridge, an introduction to college course provided to new SSS-eligible students preparing for their first semester at ACC.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, counseling, business, or other relevant fields from an accredited institution.
• One year of experience in postsecondary academic advising and program coordination, preferably working with underrepresented student populations including Students of Color, low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities.
• Experience with project planning and coordination.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual
• Familiarity with the mission and operation of Federal TRIO projects.
