Position Description

Responsible for providing academic advising to transfer students, and for leading efforts to develop programs for transfer students. Assist in the marketing and administration of those programs. Serve as liaison to URI’s degree-granting college representatives and Community College representatives, including advisors, Deans, and Department Chairs, for transfer services. Serve as liaison to all new and continuing transfer students, ensuring easy navigation of the University’s academic programs. Assist with administration and further development of transfer student orientation programs.

Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advise through individual and group models for assigned populations of transfer students. Assist faculty and full time advisors who advise transfer students. Assist with general walk-in advising as needed Work with online student records systems such as PeopleSoft, Starfish, Perceptive, Slate, etc.) Provide administrative support and advising to all Joint Admission Agreement (JAA) programs and students. Help update and maintain URI’s Transfer Equivalency System (TES), including updating of database with prior approved courses. Assist with updates of the Transfer Resource Center website, and with the marketing and communications efforts for the Center, including collaborating with New Student Programs and the Office of Admission. Ensure accurate and timely evaluation and posting of assigned populations’ transfer credits. Interpret and explain University transfer credit policies to students, faculty, departments, administrators, and parents. Collaborate with New Student Programs and the Office of Admission to organize and administer robust transfer student orientations and advising days. Attend Admission Welcome Day Events and further develop articulation agreements to facilitate recruitment and transfer to URI. Teach URI101 for transfer students. Advise Tau Sigma Honor Society.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the College in other areas as needs arise.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Personal computers and printers; word processing, database management and spreadsheet software.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

1. Master’s degree with a minimum of two years of experience in academic advising (time as a graduate student included) OR a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years providing academic advising or administrative duties and responsibilities in a higher education setting.
2. Demonstrated experience working with transfer students, or current or aspiring college students.
3. Demonstrated experience with and understanding of how to work with many curricula and degree requirements.
4. Demonstrated experience with and understanding of how to integrate issues of inclusion and equity in your work.
5. Demonstrated attention to detail.
6. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in college student personnel in higher education and counseling, or a comparable program.
2. Demonstrated experience working with data management systems to support transfer students (TES, Starfish, Perceptive, PeopleSoft, Slate, Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, Banner, etc.).
3. Demonstrated experience developing curriculum pathways.
4. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and administrators.
5. Demonstrated skills in assessment.
