Position Description

Partnering for STEM Success, a Title V funded cooperative project between McMurry University and Cisco College, seeks a Spanish-speaking STEM transfer specialist to serve as a pro-active advisor responsible for developing and implementing seamless transfer system providing educational guidance and assistance focusing on incoming STEM students from Cisco College. This position will monitor those students as they progress toward graduation, provide pro-active advising/academic coaching, schedule coursework, coordinate student needs with relevant campus resources, encourage student engagement and retention, and provide bilingual information sessions for Spanish speaking families during summer registration. This 12-month position reports to the Title V Project Director, coordinating with the Registrar, the Advising Office, the Assistant Director of Admission for Transfer and Online Recruitment, and Cisco staff members. This position requires regular (reimbursed) travel to Cisco campuses in Abilene and Cisco.

Duties

Facilitate transfer process with Cisco College:
Travel weekly to Cisco campuses
Develop and provide information about new programs, articulation agreements, research teams, and other opportunities for community college students to transition into a 4-year program.

Student Support for Cisco Transfers
Develop and implement strategies to provide personal support to incoming transfer students as needed, including welcome communications, and other activities.
Help STEM seniors with job and graduate school applications.
Assist students with locating and accessing other campus services.

Registration for Cisco Transfers
Assist students with registration each term, encouraging them to lift holds, come in for advising, and follow up with coordinating financial aid assistance.
Help students develop a plan of study that uses transfer hours effectively.
Help students evaluate the consequences of withdrawing from a course.
 Assist students with deadlines for application for graduation and advising for the final semesters.

Summer Registration Activity for Cisco Transfers
Work with student affairs [student services], academics, and admissions for summer registration.
Provide bilingual assistance, including registration sessions, as needed by Hispanic students or their families.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor’s degree required
At least 2 years’ experience working in student support services
Experience with the process of transferring from a two-year to a four-year institution
Fluency in Spanish
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
Excellent written and spoken communication skills
Ability to multi-task and remain detail-oriented.
Excellent time management and organization skills.
Proficiency with MS Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel.
 Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.
Ability to work some flexible hours/times to accommodate students and/or events.
Ability to travel weekly to Cisco campuses in Abilene and Cisco.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in student services or related field preferred. Experience working with Hispanic and low income students preferred
