Region 9 Steering Committee 2011 - 2013

Lael Adedijiis the Coordinator of Advising Information at San Jose State University, where she serves as a resource for faculty and staff advisors.  She first realized her passion for advising when she became an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Peer Advising Counselor/Coordinator as an undergraduate student at the University of California, Davis.  Prior to serving in her current role, she worked as an EOP Counselor at Humboldt State University (where she earned her Master of Arts degree in Sociology) and at California State University, East Bay as an EOP Counselor / Coordinator.  Lael Adediji has been involved with NACADA since 2004.

Alison Chandleris the Director of Academic Advising for the College of Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Alison received her B.A. in Sociology from Spelman College in 1997, her M.A. in Educational Psychology and Counselor Education from Tennessee Tech University in 2004, and most recently, her M.S. in Academic Advising in 2011 from Kansas State University. Alison's experience in NACADA has included serving on the Advising Administration and Region 9 Steering Committees, the Diversity Committee, and the Administrator's Institute Advisory Board. Alison is also a member of the 2010-2012 class of the Emerging Leaders Program.

Crystal Goodmanis an academic advisor in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences Student Academic Services office at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.  Among other duties, she helps coordinate advising and outreach efforts for prospective, incoming, and first-year students majoring in Arts and Sciences disciplines.  She has a BA and MA in English both from Texas A&M University and a PhD in Higher Education from the University of Virginia.  She has scholarly interests in college student development, collaborations between academic and student affairs, and homeschooled students.


Gwen Hansenis an Academic Advisor at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). Gwen has 12 years of experience in higher education in the areas of recruitment, academic advising, orientation planning, credentialing, and program development. She’s served two years as a Peer Advisor while obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish at CSUSM. She has served as the Advising Coordinator for the Integrated Credential Program, a blended Liberal Studies Major and Multiple Subject Credential program, since 2001 and was awarded the President’s Employee of the Month in 2007. Gwen has been a member of NACADA since 1999 and presented at the Pacific Region 9 conference in 2010 and 2011. She recently co-chaired the 2011 Pacific Region 9 conference in San Diego. Gwen has a passion for the role that Academic Advisors serve in the life of students as well as in the Higher Education system.
Gayle Juneauis the Executive Director of Academic Advising at UNLV. She grew up in Louisiana and lived in Florida for 10 years prior to moving to Las Vegas in fall 2006. Gayle possesses 14 years of experience in higher education in the areas of recruitment, admissions, academic advising, and developing retention-based programming for student services.  Her doctoral degree is in diversity studies and her interests in this realm include authoring social responsibility, desegregation of public school systems in the southern United States, and writing anti-hegemonic standpoints about race, class, and gender issues. In addition, she is a part-time instructor in the department of Women’s Studies.  Gayle is involved with mentoring disadvantaged children in southern Nevada, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, and is a diversity educator for the environmental education certification program sponsored by the UNLV Public Lands Institute.

Laurie Lindeneaubegan working at California State University San Marcos as an Advisor in 2000, just as she graduated from USD's Master's in Educational Counseling program. She has held a variety of Advising positions at CSUSM, and is currently the Coordinator of Advising and Academic Outreach for the CSUSM School of Nursing. She serves on multiple University committees and always strives to design and implement innovative and successful advising services for students. Additionally, Laurie has taught 'College Success' courses and has a background in Career Counseling. She recently had the pleasure of Co-Chairing the Region 9 NACADA Conference held in San Diego.
Patricia Lozanocurrently works at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas under the Executive Director of Academic Advising.  She serves on the campus’ Technology and Academic Advising Commission, the Academic Advising Research and Professional Development Commission and the Academic Advising Council.  Patricia was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV where she completed her degree at UNLV with a focus in English and Education.  Patricia continuously pursues opportunities to share the value of academic advising and increase the contributions the field makes to higher education and student development.

Nancy Markeeis beginning her 26th year as a faculty member at the University of Nevada, Reno. She is tenured in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science and has served as Director of the Advising Center since its inception in 2000. Dr. Markee received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources in 2002 and the Nevada System of Higher Education Regents’ Advisor of the Year Award in 2003. She is the author or co-author of over 30 refereed journal articles and book chapters, primarily in the areas of textile science and environmental behavior and policy, and has presented at numerous conferences. Her involvement with NACADA has included attending two summer institutes as well as several national and regional conferences, serving as the Region 9 representative to the Membership Committee, and as a member of both the Advising Administration Commission and the Region 9 Steering Committees. She was recently selected as a mentor for NACADA’s Emerging Leaders Program. Dr. Markee earned her Ph.D. in ecology from the University of California, Davis.

Sara Sollowayis the Director of Student Retention and Success Programs for the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office for the University of San Francisco.   Sara received her Master's degree in College Student Personnel at Indiana State University in 1995 and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at Ball State University in 1993.  Prior to coming to the University of San Francisco in June of 2005, Sara has more than 14 years experience as an administrator and advisor at Texas Tech University, Purdue University, and UC Berkeley.  Sara is currently on the NACADA National Awards Committee in addition to being the 2010 Northern California/Northern Nevada Conference Chair.
Cheryl Tillotsonserves as the Assistant Director of Academic Advising for the Academic Success Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she primarily works with students who are exploring majors. Cheryl earned both her B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in English, and her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership, with an emphasis in higher education, at UNLV.  She has over 11 years of academic advising experience and was awarded the UNLV Undergraduate Academic Advising Award in 2008.  Cheryl has been a member of NACADA since 2001 and she served as a volunteer for the 2005 Annual NACADA conference in Las Vegas, NV, as well as a conference proposal reader for both the 2005 and 2008 Annual NACADA conferences.  She also had the privilege of chairing the 2009 NACADA Pacific Region 9 conference

Oak Vichaikulhas been an Academic Advisor in the Academic Success Center (ASC) at University of Nevada Las Vegas since 2006 where he primarily works with undeclared students. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Music at Millikin University and a Master's Degree in Music Composition at the University of Iowa. In addition to advising, Oak maintains the ASC's website, blog, Twitter and Facebook accounts and actively pursues the use of technology in advising to connect with students.
