Position Description

This position is responsible for advising student on degree/program requirements and course scheduling. Maintains and updates student status records, transcript evaluations, degree plan audits, and graduation applications. Responsible for taking a leadership role in training and mentoring other advisors, participating in outreach/recruitment activities, managing special projects and/or serving as a subject matter expert on specialized majors and determining how transfer credits apply toward degree requirements.


Advise students individually and in group settings regarding degree requirements and University and College Policies. Make referrals to campus offices as necessary. Prepare and update degree audits: evaluating and applying transfer work in accordance with University and College policies. Process graduation applications and degree plans: as assigned to meet CMHT and University deadlines. Prepare and present degree information at new student orientations, prospective student appointments, and other group activities. Contribute to the overall organizational health and performance of the College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism Advising Office through teamwork, knowledge sharing, professional development and professional relationship building. Demonstrates commitment to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion within the academic community.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in student affairs, student services, counseling, or professional academic advising.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong communication skills. Experience in professional academic advising.
