2021 Operating Principles update

The NACADA Region Division Representatives initiated the effort in 2019 to review the operating principles that govern the ten NACADA Regions. Over the course of two years (and a global pandemic) these Region leaders, with input from Region Chairs and the Executive Office, updated the template used for the Region operating principles. The updates ensure that the governing documents for each region steering committee provide consistency and streamline processes for each region. The changes were official July 6, 2021. Your Region Chair and Steering Committee may have additional changes to the Region’s Operating Principles that will be submitted for a region vote this fall.

Here are some highlighted changes.
  • All regions will hold steering committee elections simultaneously. Look for a call for nominations in November and elections in January.
  • All region steering committee position terms will now begin and end at regional conferences.
  • All elected positions will consist of two-year terms. After completing a term, a steering committee member may run for one additional consecutive term. After serving two two-year terms, an individual must wait two years before applying for an open steering committee position, with the exception of regional conference co-chair.

2021 Region Conferences

COVID-19 has greatly impacted how we live and work. The health and safety of our members is our utmost concern, so NACADA pivoted the ten 2021 in-person region conferences to five virtual experiences. The Region Conference Committees, Region Steering Committees, and the NACADA Executive Office were excited to offer the same high quality professional development and networking opportunities virtually for the 2021 region conference season.

The virtual conferences featured five two-day conferences featuring live and semi-lives sessions, as well as a library of on-demand sessions. All sessions were recorded and available for the registered participants of that conference for 45 days.

Traditionally, preconference workshops are before each conference, but in 2021, we offered 25 in-depth, interactive sessions during the Preconference Workshop Week March 1-5, 2021.

Regions

Serving all NACADA members through the facilitation of networking opportunities, professional development activities, and leadership opportunities, our ten regions are governed by elected officers who propose a variety of activities to support academic advisors, faculty advisors, and advising administrators within their geographic regions. Region members conduct annual conferences, local drive-ins, and develop programs which fit the needs of their specific region. Global members are invited to attend region activities which best suit their professional development requirements.
