2025 Region 1 Steering Committee Candidates

Professional Development Chair

  • Melissa Grant Melissa Grant

As Pace University’s Associate Dean for Advisement, my involvement in NACADA has focused on sending advisors from across my team to regional conferences to support their professional growth and retention in the advising profession.  Throughout my 20+ years of leadership, my primary commitment has been to supporting my team's growth. Now that I am further along in my career, I am eager to broaden my impact with opportunities that engage with the larger advisement community.  A common thread throughout my career has been a devotion to creating professional development opportunities. In my current role, I unified 8 distinct school-based advisement teams/programs, strengthen positions across 7 title levels, build a career trajectory, and streamlines responsibilities, technologies and caseloads.  Most relevant to this opportunity, I built a vibrant culture of professional development. My prior Pace position involved the creation of a robust graduate student organizations dedicated to career readiness.  Preceding this includes my Managerial role with CUNY Central where I designed training programs across 23 distinct colleges and my time at LIU where I developed an array of faculty training programs. Happy to provide my CV upon request!

Connecticut Liaison

  • Daniel Covino Daniel Covino

For the past 10 months, I've served as the Connecticut liaison. In that capacity, I facilitated our state meeting at the regional conference and incorporated feedback from members to set up a "lunch and learn" series through which advisors across our state can share their experiences. So far we've had workshops on advising diverse populations and first-generation students, and we've had members of admission teams discuss their work with us. I'm hoping to continue this series in the months to come by focusing on other populations of students and aspects of our work. I've enjoyed getting to know higher education colleagues throughout the state. I hope to continue to foster connections!

Massachusetts Liaison

  • Julia Zeigler Julia Zeigler

I have become more actively involved with NACADA in the last 3 years, but I have been working in advising for over ten years. I serve on the Steering Committee for the Graduate and Professional Students Advising Community. I have presented at two Region I NACADA conferences and I have been a reviewer of proposals for posters and presentations two years in a row. This would be my first time holding a position on the Region I Steering Committee, but I believe I would do so with great enthusiasm, leadership, and attention to detail. My goals in this position would be to remain informed, provide clear and consistent communication, and to remain an advocate for our Region I members in Massachusetts.

New Hampshire Liaison

  • Caitlin Bannon Caitlin Bannon

I've been a NACADA member for roughly 12 years, working as an academic advisor in varying roles at the University of New Hampshire. Last year, I won the NACADA Region I Excellence in Advising - Primary Role Advisor award. I was able to attend the conference and am now looking for ways to get more involved in NACADA to help make a larger impact. I'm hoping to connect with other advisors at institutions and develop leadership and collaboration skills within the organization.
