Joining the NACADA Region 9 Steering Committee will be my first leadership experience within the region. After serving the advising community at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa in different leadership roles, I feel it is a great opportunity to extend my contribution to the field of advising to our NACADA region and specifically across the Pacific as the Pacific Area Liaison. I recognize the importance of community. The community of academic advisors plays an essential role in supporting and advocating for students in policies, practices, and procedures that can create a more positive experience for our students across our campuses. I see my role as building relationships. Collaboration across different levels of governance can be influential in learning about and implementing strategies that will ultimately support our students. In the role of Pacific Area Liason, I hope to continue building bridges across our campuses and supporting the work of our current Pacific Area Liaison aimed at strengthening relationships and connections. There are many strengths in the Pacific area, especially in our dedication to Native Hawaiian and Indigenous-serving practices. I hope to create avenues to share our work and support one another.
