Position Description

Doane University, a liberal arts university with campuses located in Crete, Lincoln, and Omaha, Nebraska, is looking for a highly collaborative student services professional to join us as an Academic Advisor. In this role you will work as a member of the University Academic Advising team serving current and prospective students (residential, non-residential, online, undergraduate and graduate) enrolled at Doane University across all campus locations.


-Participate in partnerships with faculty, staff, and administration to meet the goals of the university.
-Serve as a member of a team coordinating all activities related to academic planning, registration, and retention of students for on campus and on-line programs ensuring timeliness to graduation.
-Serve as a primary academic advisor for current enrolled students.
-Advise current and prospective students in one or more majors in the University on academic program planning through in-person, drop-in and online appointments, and by phone and email.
-Encourage overall well-being and adjustment to the University as well as exploration of interests as they relate to majors, careers and student experience.
-Work collaboratively with faculty to develop appropriate course selections
-Assist students in identifying quality real-world experience through internships, research, study abroad, service, and leadership.
-Partner and collaborate with enrollment team to assist in recruitment efforts, including meeting and discussing academic plans with prospective students as needed.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience in higher education
-Experience in student facing role such as advising, student affairs, career development or recruitment

Preferred Qualifications

-Master's degree
-Background in liberal arts and sciences
-Database management
-Student outreach experience
-Experience working with faculty in a supportive role
