Honors College staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high-achieving students. The Academic Advisor and Internship Coordinator works with students in two primary ways. The incumbent will be responsible for academic advising of approximately 160 students each semester, which involves assessing students’ curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes. As Internship Coordinator, the incumbent will serve as instructor of record for SCHC internship courses and the South Carolina Semester Program as well as coordinate the promotion, implementation and evaluation of both programs.
For academic advising this position uses available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising and guides students toward a rich collegiate experience that includes courses, research, study abroad, service learning, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success. As the internship coordinator, coordinates year-round SCHC internship courses, promotes SCHC internships to employers and students and assists in the preparation of students for internship experiences, and serves as primary instructor of record for multiple sections of SCHC internship courses (fall, spring and summer). The coordinator also performs administrative and operational functions for marketing, recruitment, application review, selection and orientation of students, and facilitates internship placements with SC governmental agencies, including the legislative and executive branches, and collaborates with internship providers to ensure a successful experience.
