Department Summary
The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement and achievement for the student scholar. UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development. UESS departments and programs serve the entire population of UO undergraduate students and partner closely with other campus units to support student success and engagement. Focused on ensuring student success, retention and completion, the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) serves as the central campus academic advising resource. OAA is comprised of professional advisors that provide coordinated coaching and support that is student-centered, caring, holistic, inclusive, and culturally aware. Advisors collaborate with students to help them achieve their academic potential, participate in relevant learning and research opportunities, and reach their professional goals. OAA assists students in making a smooth transition to the university and provides wrap around advising services to undergraduate students in a variety of scenarios (exploring, transfer, students in distress, academic/financial concerns, and first-year). The OAA team works in a fast-paced, drop-in and appointment-based office setting. Each year, OAA sees over 14,000 students, representing diverse academic interests, abilities, and cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds. OAA also offers outreach and training to faculty and department advisors, coordinates advising at all orientation events, and supports implementation of advising policy across campus.


The Transfer Transition Coordinator reports directly to the Director of the Office of Academic Advising and is primarily responsible for supporting a smooth transfer student transition to the UO. This work involves coordination, partnership and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders such as Office of Admissions, Registrar, First Year Experiences, Student Orientation Programs, UO colleges and schools, Lane Community College, and other community colleges. The Coordinator develops partnerships with academic units across campus and the Registrar's Office to gather and collate information around transfer courses and transfer articulation in order to create a clearinghouse of transfer information. The Coordinator will foster transfer student transition and success by developing internal and external communication and information resources with clear guidance, outlines, and referrals to ensure a more seamless transfer transition. Additionally, the Coordinator collaborates with external stakeholders at LCC and other community colleges to bridge information and communication between UO and CCs to improve quality, accuracy, and transparency of information disseminated to prospective UO transfers. The Coordinator will serve on external committees such as the Transfer Council and will support and participate with transfer advisory committee work coordinated through First Year Experiences. The Coordinator will retain a small percentage of academic advising responsibilities, primarily focused on transfer students to remain current with university advising practices and transfer student issues and challenges. They must be able to work with first-generation, low income, underrepresented, and international transfer students. They must be skilled in addressing the needs of re-entry students, students in crisis, and students experiencing scholastic difficulty. The Coordinator must possess an ability to communicate effectively and partner with various stakeholders both on and off campus including advising and enrollment management staff and administrators, faculty, and Deans. Required Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree.
• Three years' experience in a high school, college, university, counseling, educational, or similar setting providing academic advising, advising support, student services, career counseling or counseling. Professional Competencies
• Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
• A broad working knowledge of student development principles.
• Understanding of issues facing diverse groups (e.g. low-socioeconomic, first generation, underrepresented students of color, non-traditional, and under-prepared individuals).
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to set operational goals from strategic plans.
• High-level organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, detail oriented and time sensitive environment.
• Diligently attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing tasks.
• Recognizes situations that warrant initiative and moves forward without hesitation; resolving issues, problems, or situations.
• Ability to anticipate next steps and execute independently.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (or similar). Ability to produce professional correspondence, documents, data reports, and presentations.
• Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
• Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

 • Master's degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, student services/student affairs, higher education leadership or related area.
• Advanced experience developing partnerships with internal and external constituents, in particular administrative staff and faculty
• Knowledge of University and/or community college resources to support prospective and current transfer students.
