Position Description

As an important component of the CSU student success effort, the Advising Operations Coordinator supports the Student Success Initiative by serving as the primary bridge between the users of advising systems and information and the technology staff to coordinate the implementation of system interfaces and data integration. The intended results of this integrated approach of advising systems and data are improved advising, increased retention, and higher graduation rates. The position also collaborates with the Assistant Director for Advising Training & Professional Development and the Director of Advising on communication efforts, training opportunities, and professional development for advisors campus-wide. The Advising Operations Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Advising Training & Professional Development who reports to the Director of Advising in the Collaborative for Student Achievement. The Advising Operations Coordinator’s work is highly collaborative, and so the position works closely with many offices on campus such as the Registrar’s Office, Information Systems and departmental and collegiate advising units, and other advising stakeholders. The position receives guidance from their supervisor and staff from the Registrar’s Office, Information Systems, departmental advising units, and Vendor Company contacts.

The Collaborative for Student Achievement reports to both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs and is made up of the following units: Advising for Undeclared Students, Community for Excellence Scholar Programs, Key Communities, Orientation and Transition Programs, Outreach and Support Programs, and Health Professions Advising. In all its activities, the Collaborative emphasizes and enhances students’ abilities and assets, and supports the campus priority for a diverse and supportive learning environment by upholding the CSU Principles of Community. Along with student service units, the Collaborative for Student Achievement has four support areas, which include the Welcome Center, budget, human resources, and technology; along with oversight of the undeclared student computer labs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
At least two years of full-time professional experience working in higher education programs or organizations focused in areas of student success, enrollment services, advising, student affairs, retention, or graduation efforts (2 years in a 20 hour per week graduate experience equals 1 year of professional experience)
Commitment to diversity as demonstrated by active involvement in initiatives to promote diversity and or enhanced learning experiences through diverse environments

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Business, Liberal Arts, Natural or Applied Sciences, Communication, or related field Two or more years of professional experience with direct student support services
Understanding of data integration, information transmission, familiarity with Excel and database programs Knowledge of the Education Advisory Board (EAB) Navigate platform or other advising systems
Data analysis and synthesizing in a university or non-profit setting
Negotiation and collaboration skills with campus wide projections with multiple stakeholders
Proven ability to relate well to constituencies at all levels: students, administrative leaders, faculty, and staff Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to interact with technology staff in implementing new processes and capabilities
Experience managing projects including developing a plan and coordinating implementation of projects
Experience collaborating across multiple units simultaneously
Experience with implementation processes and systems within higher education or non-profit
Excellent human relations skills
