Position Description

The offices of Student Success Services at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina are seeking applicants (upper-level undergraduate and graduate students) for a credit-based academic advising internship during the 2019-2020 academic year. Internships will begin in the fall 2019 semester and can be semester-long or yearlong. This academic internship will provide professional preparation in the student’s given program of study by building communication, critical thinking, interpersonal relationship, technology, problem solving and leadership skills. Interns will gain invaluable on-the-job experience advising a diverse student population. This internship is an excellent opportunity for any major but will significantly benefit students majoring in psychology, sociology, social work, human services, education, student development, student affairs, higher education, and other careers of service.


  • Interns will practice and learn academic advising functions
  • Guide students to develop success strategies
  • Provide academic guidance to students
  • Explain policies, procedures and program requirements
  • Make referrals to other student support services on and off campus
  • Assist students in planning and selecting the appropriate classes for educational and career goals

Must be an upper division undergrad or graduate student Must be able to commit at least 10 hours per week at our Central campus Must have a positive attitude and be enthusiastic about helping others
