Position Description

This position provides academic services to undergraduate students in the School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) programs of Construction Management (CM), Interior Design (ID), Landscape Architecture (LA), and Urban and Regional Planning (URP) and supports SPDC, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), and the College of Social Science (CSS) undergraduate program goals, missions, and initiatives. This Academic Specialist in Advising position is continual/permanent following two successful probationary reviews at year 2 and 5. The position is expected to start in January 2020.

Duties

Position Description This position provides academic services to undergraduate students in the School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC) programs of Construction Management (CM), Interior Design (ID), Landscape Architecture (LA), and Urban and Regional Planning (URP) and supports SPDC, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), and the College of Social Science (CSS) undergraduate program goals, missions, and initiatives. This Academic Specialist in Advising position is continual/permanent following two successful probationary reviews at year 2 and 5. The position is expected to start in January 2020. Duties Responsibilities include undergraduate student advising (including education abroad, career development, probation conferences, campus resource referrals, and related topics); academic program planning; orientation initiatives; development and implementation of activities related to recruitment and student success; scholarships; admissions support; degree certification; co-leading the annual school Open House; and commencement. Additional responsibilities include facilitation of the SPDC internship course; co-chairing monthly Student Advisory Council (StAC) meetings; and attending career-readiness events on and off campus (involves travel that may include evening and weekend attendance). Further responsibilities may include supervision of student employees; management of a weekly SPDC newsletter; data collection and analysis; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, social work, student affairs or related field. Ability to interpret and implement academic policies and procedures. Demonstrated competency in the use of university technologies. Familiarity with online student information/databases and MS Excel. Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to establish rapport across ethnic, racial, cultural and gender differences, as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Three to five years of experience advising undergraduate students, academic administrative/coordination experience, or comparable experience with college/university students.
