Position Description

The UL Academic Success Center's Academic Advisors take a holistic approach in the responsibilities of: providing educational planning and academic advisement to first and second year students, coaching students on high impact academic success practices, and informing students of degree requirements and academic achievement. The Academic Advisor will support the ASC’s and University’s efforts to increase the persistence and graduation rates of the undergraduate student by fostering retention of students through mentoring, coaching, and other support programs.


  • Manage a caseload of students, monitoring academic progress and success.
  • Support academic progress and career preparation for a diverse student body; apply student development theory to individual circumstances.
  • Serve as an interventionist for students receiving academic “at-risk” alerts.
  • Provide individualized, holistic guidance to students on co- and extracurricular engagement activities.
  • Coach students on making choices that promote student retention realistic degree progress for individual circumstances.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to University resources.
  • Participate in college recruitment events and orientation programming.
  • Serve on committees related to student success.
  • Teach two sections of “Mastering the First Year.”

Required Qualifications

Master's degree required a minimum of two years work experience in area within Academic Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

Three to five years work experience. Coaching experience and working with academic at-risk and/or undecided students is preferred.
