Position Description

The Office of Student Services in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CPPS) is an energetic and highly fast-paced environment where we rely heavily on current technologies to meet the demands of the Doctor of Pharmacy students and our stakeholders. The Academic and Student Success Advisor provides quality advising and recruitment support for students as they apply, are accepted to, and complete their Doctor of Pharmacy degree with the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The advisor will provide advising and support to help students navigate the higher education environment, set academic goals, plan for co-curricular experiences that support career goals, and develop academic success strategies. Duties include but are not limited to: advising students throughout the admissions process, participating in admissions and recruitment events, motivating students to set and achieve educational and career goals, conducting workshops and presentations, which includes coordination of Career Fair, promoting academic success skill development, monitoring and tracking students’ academic progress and coordinating and developing student success programs. This position may require occasional travel to local, regional, and national locations for student services training and support.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Additional Requirements: Experience with recruitment, admissions and advising. Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use office software, such as -databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and Outlook. Advanced skills in the use of Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Outlook. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to remain professional, courteous, and interact effectively with people in a positive manner that engenders confidence and trust. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability work collaborative in a team environment. Ability and willingness to occasionally travel, work weekends, and work after regular business hours. Experience in program development. Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively and multi-task to meet deadlines. WSU ACADA Level 1 certification within six (6) months of hire. Position requires a valid unrestricted driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field. Working knowledge of learning styles, retention strategies, and academic success strategies. Understanding and belief in developmental academic advising. Strong public speaking skills and the ability to develop and deliver engaging and informative presentations to students and parents. Experience advising, counseling, teaching at the post-secondary level. Experience using student records databases/programs for higher education institutions. Previous work experience at an institution of higher education. Experience implementing student related policies and procedures. Education in and/or experience with assessment and outcomes management. Previous work experience with a College/School of Pharmacy or other educational program. Experience in higher education, recruitment, and program development and evaluation. Experience working with diverse faculty, students and staff. Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.
