The Advising Assessment Coordinator and Academic Advisor will develop and implement assessment strategies for programs and services as related to academic advising and student success, and participate in strategic planning for CAC. Major responsibilities of the position include: (1) providing academic advising regarding requirements and options for undergraduate students in CAC, (2) creating assessment projects and/or utilizing current data to support academic advising at UCLA, (3) supporting the development, assessment, and evaluation of programs under the jurisdiction of College Academic Counseling as needed, and (4) participating in outreach activities of the unit as assigned, including in-person, phone and on-line advising activities. In this role, the Assessment Coordinator and Academic Advisor will create and implement a program of assessment for advising, organize and disseminate reports and related documents, and participate in creating and contributing to a culture of evidence-based decision making. The Assessment Coordinator and Academic Advisor will collaborate and coordinate with campus partners to support CAC. The Academic Advisor and Coordinator will also provide academic advising for students with an emphasis on strategies for achieving personal and scholastic balance, academic success, and scholarly and career exploration. Additionally, the incumbent will process student petitions, act on requests for exceptions to rules and policies using established and uniform guidelines, evaluate student applications for readmission to UCLA and determines appropriate action, respond to inquiries from students and parents, compose letters of recommendation as requested in support of student applications for graduate and professional schools, employment, scholarships, etc., and follow up on individual student cases and makes referrals when appropriate.
