The Dean of Student Affairs provides visionary leadership to the Paradise Valley Community College student affairs division to create and sustain a culture of inclusive excellence that promotes student success, retention, and completion utilizing the college’s guided academic pathways model. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, this position will promote a student-oriented culture that ensures access, sustains educational excellence, fosters student development, and supports high levels of student achievement and success. This position has responsibility to develop and support collaborative and cooperative positive-working relationships with academic and student affairs departments. The specific areas of responsibility currently include: Academic Advising Career Services Student Life Disability Resources Student Conduct Administration Student Early Alert Intervention and Student Success Initiatives Oversight of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) First Year Experience Initiatives Guided Academic Pathways Initiatives This position will also demonstrate constructive team-building principles, a dedication to putting students first, and a commitment to serving diverse and nontraditional college students. The Dean provides leadership and strategic decision-making within a learning college philosophy and demonstrates a commitment to student success, diversity, service excellence, innovation, and collaboration. It is critical to the success of this position to be a strong partner to a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff, district colleagues, and the public.


Essential Functions 25% -
Directs, develops, plans, budgets and evaluates college-wide student affairs programs designed to facilitate enrollment and student success; develops long-range strategic planning, program design and program management; prepares and monitors budgets and oversees budget expenditures

20% - Administers and enforces policies and processes pertaining to student services, disability support, and student conduct; Monitors the compliance and reporting standards of district, state, and federal regulations; responsible for student judicial affairs and manages student complaints as per MCCCD policies and procedures; keeps abreast of compliance and reporting standards with state, federal and district regulations

15% - Directs, develops, plans, organizes, and implements long-range strategies which support a research-based foundation for college-wide retention and persistence efforts; coordinates tracking systems, data collection, analysis and follow-up

25% - Administers an interconnected range of student services functions in support of a learning-centered college mission; integrates MCCCD student success initiatives into programming efforts including Guided Pathways strategies, which improve student persistence, retention and completion

15% - Represents the student affairs division at activities, events, and workshops; serves on various college committees to include college strategic planning and represents the college at district and community meetings; resolves complex problems; and coordinates campus-wide events that promote student success, enrollment and retention; performs other related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Salary Range: $95,856.00 - $124,613.00 Annually / Depending on Experience
Grade 125
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm; some evenings and weekends may be required
Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7am-6pm
Work Calendar: 12 Months

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education or field related to area of assignment and four (4) years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in a field of assignment that includes two (2) years of supervisory experience. Examples of student affairs academic support management/leadership experience includes program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. No degree equivalency. OR Master's Degree in a teaching field related to area(s) of assignment and four (4) years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three (3) years of teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience includes division/department chair, project management, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance. No degree equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
1. Doctoral Degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, or Education-Related field.
2. Experience working at a community college or with community college students.
3. Three (3) years of experience in student adjudication / student conduct / grievance processes and procedures (Title IX and / or Instructional and / or conduct grievances and processes)
4. Five (5) years in a progressive leadership role/experience working in student affairs programs and/or services. This experience should include budget management, assessment, and staff development.
5. Leadership of Guided Academic Pathways in a community college setting.
6. Five (5) years experience developing and implementing retention-based student success initiatives
7. Five (5) years demonstrated experience working and interacting with students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, perspectives, and/or cultures. Special Working Conditions Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:
